Email Forwarding & Aliases

Email Forwarding & Aliases on GoSiteMe

Email forwarding and aliases let you manage multiple addresses without creating separate mailboxes. This guide walks you through setting up both features on your GoSiteMe hosting account.

What Are Email Aliases?

An alias is an alternative email address that delivers mail to an existing mailbox. For example, you could create sales@yourdomain.com as an alias for info@yourdomain.com. All messages sent to the alias arrive in the same inbox—no extra storage or login required.

Setting Up an Alias

  1. Log in to your GoSiteMe Dashboard and navigate to Email → Manage Accounts.
  2. Select the primary mailbox you want the alias to point to.
  3. Click Add Alias and enter the desired address prefix (e.g., sales).
  4. Click Save. The alias is active immediately—no DNS changes needed.

Configuring Email Forwarding

Forwarding sends a copy of every incoming message to an external address (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) while optionally keeping a copy in your GoSiteMe mailbox.

  1. Go to Email → Forwarders in the dashboard.
  2. Click Create Forwarder.
  3. Enter the source address and the destination address.
  4. Choose whether to retain a local copy or forward only.
  5. Click Save.

Catch-All Forwarding

A catch-all forwards every message sent to any address at your domain—even ones that don't exist—to a single mailbox. This is useful during a migration but can increase spam, so enable it cautiously.

Best Practices

  • Use aliases for department addresses (support@, billing@) instead of separate accounts.
  • When forwarding to Gmail, add an SPF include for GoSiteMe's mail servers to avoid delivery issues.
  • Review forwarders quarterly and remove any that are no longer needed.
  • Avoid forwarding chains (A → B → C) as each hop increases latency and the risk of message loss.

Troubleshooting

If forwarded messages are not arriving, check the destination provider's spam folder and verify that your domain's SPF record includes GoSiteMe's mail servers. You can also view delivery logs under Email → Logs in the dashboard.
