Apocalypse of Abraham 1
1
On the day when I planned the gods of my father Terah and the gods of Nahor his brother, as I was seeking which God is in truth the strongest among them,
2
I, Abraham, at the time when my lot came, when I had completed the services of my father Terah's sacrifice to his gods of wood, stone, gold, silver, brass and iron,
3
Having entered their temple for service, I found the god named Marumath fallen on his face before the iron god Nachon.
4
And when I saw this I was troubled in my heart, and I thought that I, Abraham, could not set him up again alone, for he was too big, being made of heavy stone. And so I went and told my father Terah.
5
And my father came in, and together we were able to lift him. And as we lifted him, his head fell off while I was still holding him by the head.
6
And when my father saw that the head of Marumath had fallen off, he said to me: Wait, Abraham, while I go and bring a sculptor and have another head made in place of the one that fell off.
7
And I answered my father Terah and said: How then dost thou call him God who cannot help himself? He who was not able to hold his own head on. And how should he save thee and hear thy prayer?
